During my time in the city I made it a point to visit several of these locations to see how London’s sauna culture compares to places like Scandinavia and Eastern Europe. Each spot offers something a little different. Some focus on social community sauna experiences while others provide quieter recovery focused environments.

Community Sauna Baths is one of the most well known sauna experiences in London and for good reason. The organization is a community run non profit project created to make sauna culture accessible and affordable across the city.

They operate several outdoor sauna locations across London including Hackney Wick, Stratford, Peckham, Camberwell, and Walthamstow. Each site offers wood fired saunas paired with cold plunge pools in relaxed outdoor settings.

Sessions rotate between the sauna and cold plunge with groups often moving through the cycles together. The atmosphere is social and welcoming and feels more like a community gathering than a traditional spa visit.

The saunas get properly hot and the cold plunges are refreshingly cold. If you want to experience London’s growing sauna culture in a community driven environment, this is one of the best places to start.

Urban Heat Sauna

Sweheat Sauna

Sweheat Sauna offers an outdoor sauna experience along the water at Royal Victoria Dock in East London. The wood fired sauna sits right beside the dock, creating a setting that feels far removed from the busy city streets.

In addition to regular sauna sessions, Sweheat hosts guided rituals inspired by traditional European sauna culture. One of the highlights is the Lithuanian Pirtis ritual where leafy branch bundles known as venik are used to gently stimulate circulation while aromatic steam fills the sauna.

After time in the sauna, guests cool down with cold plunges or by stepping outside along the waterfront before returning to the heat.

Rooftop Sauna Brixton

Rooftop Sauna Brixton might be one of the most unique sauna experiences in London. As the name suggests, the sauna sits high above Brixton with views across the London skyline.

Waking Dreams

Waking Dreams is a wellness studio in Bethnal Green that blends movement, recovery, and sauna sessions in one space. Along with yoga and strength classes, the studio offers sauna experiences designed to help people unwind and reset.

The atmosphere focuses on slowing down and stepping away from the pace of city life. Sauna sessions are designed to be restorative, giving visitors a chance to relax, sweat, and recharge.
